Ordering a ring online can be daunting. How to know your ring size? This can be a challenging job and easy to get wrong if you just try guessing. This is especially difficult if the ring is a gift for someone else and you want to surprise the person.
It is always best to know the ring size you need before you place your order!
The most common ring sizes for women range between size 4 to size 9, and most popular ring size is 6.
The most common ring sizes for men range between size 8 to size 14, and most popular ring size is 9.
The correct ring size means the ring feels comfortable while wearing it. The ring should be big enough so that it can easily slide over the knuckle and comfortably settle down at the base of the finger but should also be tight enough to not slip over the knuckle.
Your knuckle can be quite large compared to the rest of the finger. So, you must consider how to get the ring over the knuckle and sit comfortably on the base of the finger.
Usually there is an empty area or hole underneath where a stone is set on a ring. This is to enable easy cleaning under the stone so it will keep its shine. This area must be considered because it can take up some room from the skin of the finger and this will change ring size needed.
The wider the ring the tighter it is going to feel on your finger. A 10mm band will feel tighter than a 4mm band of the same size. So, if you were sized for a narrow ring consider ordering a half size or even full size more for a wide ring.
Cold weather causes the fingers to shrink and hot weather causes fingers to expand. It is best to measure you finger at normal room temperature.
Finger sizes are generally smaller in the morning and gradually increase in size as the day goes on. The best time to measure the size of your fingers will be during the afternoon. This is when your ring size will be at its average size. But it is a good idea, if possible, to take multiple readings during different times of the day and over a few days to rule out any chance of errors.
Some websites have a printable ring size chart show gradually increasing diameter circles. With this method you take an existing ring that already fits you and place it on the page of printed circles. Simple match up the circle that best matches the circumference of your ring. Your size is the number printed within that circle.
This method involves taking a narrow piece of paper and wrapping it around your ring finger. Mark where the end of the paper lands and then flatten the paper and measure its length with a ruler. Match that measurement up with an online ring size chart. You can use millimeters or inches depending on the measurement conversions used in your chart.
In this method, you take a piece of string and wrap it round your ring finger. Mark where the string overlaps or simply cut it at that point. Lay the string flat and measure its length. Match that measurement up with an online ring size chart. You can use millimeters or inches depending on the measurement conversions used in your chart.
Note: The above 3 methods are not reliable and we do not recommend using them. The measurements are inaccurate and we rarely receive the correct size using these methods.
Using a plastic or metal ring sizer is the best method for determining ring size. This is an instrument that is universally used by jewelry shops throughout the world. Simply go to your local jewelry shop and let them know you are interested in purchasing a ring but don’t know your finger ring size. An employee there will take out a ring sizing tool and measure your finger. This number will most likely be your correct finger size.
If you are not near a local jewelry shop or don’t have time to get to one, then we have a solution for you. We sell a plastic ring sizer that you can purchase through our website www.stevengdesigns.com.

Hi I am getting this ring for my husband. Unfortunately we are not 100% sure of his middle finger ring size, we have tried a few different ways;following directions online. We’ve come up with size ‘13’.
I see what you say to do if there ends up being an issue with the size when it arrives, but- fingers crossed we did it correctly. So thank you for your website & we are looking forward to this BEAUTIFUL ring!!!!
Thank you, thank you !!
