Exercising Your Fingers?

Exercising Your Fingers?

I am a member of a gym here in Shenzhen. I go regularly 3 times per week. Whenever I go I always see someone working out and staring down on their phone.

I don’t understand it. A person goes to the gym to do some exercise, get in shape and feel better. Why does someone need their cell phone in there? It is only 30 or 40 minutes of their time. Does a person really have to be ‘connected’ all day long?

Many times I see someone sitting on a workout machine and just reading and texting over their phone. They are not even using the machine – just keeping it warm. Or they are using one hand to lift some weight while using the other hand to hold the phone. The treadmill is very popular for this because you can have both hands free for punching keys and browsing.

The problem is that they become so focused on their messaging that they don’t even pay attention to what they are doing and their workout gradually slows down to a snail’s pace. There is no benefit to their health aside from the pleasure of telling their friends that they go to the gym.

I actually consider myself a snob when I go to the gym. I like to focus on what I am doing. I don’t like meeting people and talking. I just want to do my thing and leave on a high. I think of going to the gym as part of my job. It helps gets my blood flowing and clears my mind. It’s a great place to think of new ideas for my business.

I highly recommend it for any business owner. I spend a lot of time in front of the computer and it can drain my energy. After a trip to the gym I feel refreshed.

So next time you decide to go to the gym leave your phone at home or in the locker. Open up your mind and think of new things. It will end up being the best part of your day.
